Do not do what the scribes and Pharisees do
My God I thank you I am not
A Pharisee and do not force
My friends to give up grog or go
to Mass. I’m tolerance itself.
I do not own phylacteries.
In Church I sit down at the back,
Last in, first out, I’ve always said,
And pass on the collection plate.
I’m just an ordinary guy,
No sweat, no tears, and no regrets.
I have no time for such excess
As dying on a blood-stained cross.
