2 Chronicles 24:17-25. For ever I will keep my love for him – Ps 88(89):4-5, 29-34. Matthew 6:24-34.
Light of faith
Today is the shortest Saturday of the year for those of us south of the equator. There will be soup for lunch. As we warm up, we might think of how often Scripture talks about light. It is the first thing mentioned in the creation story (let there be light) and a keenly felt absence as Jesus is betrayed (night had fallen). Today, Jesus urges us to be careful about the things we look at.
It’s better advice now than ever, as we spend so much time gazing into screens and phones. ‘If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light.’ Ironically, we may need to close our eyes for a few minutes to really take that to heart. We need the light of faith to come from deep within, from the place we keep our real treasure.
