About Today Readings

Jeremiah 11:18-20. Lord, my God, I take shelter in you – Psalm 7:2-3, 9-12. John 7:40-52.

The Law does not allow us to pass judgment on a man without hearing him

The people who heard Jesus speak were puzzled as to who he was – a prophet or the Messiah? However, they could not go so far as to accept him fully as the Messiah despite the great impression he made on them. Many others disputed this claim. One reason being because they knew Jesus was from Galilee – not Bethlehem as prophesied in the Scriptures. Sadly, many still don’t recognise the greatness of Christ today. So, they wanted him to be arrested even when Nicodemus reminds them that the law did not allow people to be judged without a hearing. Lord help us to realise that whenever we quickly or instinctively jump to judge another person, they too need to be heard first. We have a choice to hold onto the judgment or release it. In those circumstances, what will we choose to do?
