He is not God of the dead, but of the living
Edna: Jesus, the question the Sadducees asked you was so stupid. Why did you take it seriously?
Jesus: Yes, it was a silly-billy question, Edna. They were trying to trap me. So I wanted to show them that the way they saw God and God’s promises was lifeless. I wanted them to let their faith come alive.
Edna: What difference does it make to think of God as God of the living?
Jesus: Well, Edna, it stops us from thinking that God is locked into our world and our limited ways of thinking. And that also means that we are not trapped into shrinking our own lives to the daily grind of our journey from life to death in our world. God invites us into a wonderfully changed world, a new heaven and a new earth. That promise is at the heart of my preaching.
Edna: Thank you Jesus. That should make my prayer more exciting, shouldn’t it.
