Do not worry about tomorrow . . .
Having moved into a St Francis House in Stanmore in January 1990, I discovered there was no lease, and eviction loomed. On the feast of the Sacred Heart, I found a house in Marrickville for what became Gethsemane Community.
The following Monday, I went to teach at Holy Cross College, Woollahra. As I walked in, Deputy Brian commented. ‘You don’t look very happy’. I told him I needed to move house but had no money. He replied, ‘Don’t come to morning tea’. He told Barbara RSM, the beloved Principal, and the staff. Anne Marie RSM went to the bishop, parish priest and to her congregation. She also hired Max, a removalist. As students left for the day, others stood at gates saying, ‘How would you like to be homeless?’ and collected donations. $2500 was raised, enough for us to move, connect electricity and phone. It was Divine Providence in action.
