Apocalypse 11:4-12. Blessed be the Lord, my Rock! – Psalm 143(144):1-2, 9-10. Luke 20:27-40.
God is greater than anything we can understand
It’s natural for us to try and wrap our minds around what might happen to us when we die. What might it be like to be eternally in God’s embrace? How will we relate to others in God’s kingdom? What parts of ourselves, and our relationships in this world, might continue on into the next?
In today’s reading, Jesus is questioned by Sadducees about some of his teachings related to the resurrection. We’re told that they themselves did not believe in the resurrection, and so the questions were more aimed at ‘catching’ Jesus out. Jesus’ response highlights how they are caught up in thinking about God and eternal life in terms of life in this world.
While our questions are natural, it’s helpful to remember that the full nature of God is greater than anything we can ever comprehend.
