St Bartholomew
Apocalypse 21:9-14. Your friends tell the glory of your kingship, Lord – Psalm 144(145):10-13, 17-18. John 1:45-51.
Can any good come from Nazareth?
Good Lord, I like Nathaniel –
he’s just like me – he’s sceptical,
and prejudiced against a world
he neither knows nor wants to know,
and yet he thirsts for something more
and you tap into his desire
by knowing him and loving him
and stirring all his wildest dreams.
Have pity, Jesus, on my lack
of trust, my slowness to believe
that what you see in me you love.
Help me to follow close to you.
