Thank God I am not like other men
Bombo: Great to see you getting stuck into the Pharisee, Jesus. They really were arrogant creeps, weren’t they? There’s heaps of people like them today, too.
Jesus: Thanks, Bombo. Actually, many Pharisees were good and generous people. But who today seem to you like the Pharisee in the story?
Bombo: Oh, there’s the filthy rich developers, the bankers, the slippery politicians, and the bigots. They think they are God’s chosen, with their Mercs and island hideaways, looking down on us struggling fools who never cut it. Not your kind of people, Jesus.
Jesus: Sorry, Bombo – the tax collector in my story was one of that mob. He was a stand-over merchant and filthy rich. But deep down he hated what he was doing. The Pharisee wasn’t rich, and he took his religion seriously. He just didn’t look into his own heart. The tax collector did. That’s why he didn’t compare himself with others.
Bombo: You don’t think I do that, do you, Jesus?
