St Cyril of Alexandria
Lamentations 2:2, 10-14, 18-19. Lord, forget not the life of your poor ones – Ps 73(74):1-7, 20-21. Matthew 8:5-17.
Believe that you will be healed
We all need healing, and today’s reading reminds us that sometimes believing is the key aspect. Whether it be physical, emotional or spiritual, the process of healing is slow and challenging. When we are hurt, time must pass before we are made whole again. Sometimes the pain we experience is overwhelming and can be all-consuming. When we suffer, we must have hope that healing will occur.
Belief and hope are conjoined. We must expect that things will get better, but we also must accept this as true even if we are not sure how it can be. When you are hurting, have hope in the future and believe that you will be healed. That is what the centurion did – have faith.
