Lord, help me to show your love
In today’s Gospel we are encouraged to love our enemies and do good to those who hate us. I like to think that I am a nice person. I don’t have any enemies. I am good to everybody. But am I?
When people annoy me, I really enjoy seeing them fail. I relish it. I tend to assume the worst of motives for all of their actions. And oh boy, do I bring the snark.
Which brings me to ask myself, if I talk uncharitably about a person in a way they would find upsetting if they were in the room, am I really loving my enemies? Am I doing good to those who hate me – or even just those who find me annoying?
Lord, help me to show your love to all I encounter. Even the ones who get on my nerves.
