About Today Readings

Ss Simon and Jude

Ephesians 2:19-22. Their message goes out through all the earth – Psalm 18(19):2-5. Luke 6:12-19.

Simon the Zealot, and Jude Thaddeus, were Apostles of Jesus.

Jesus speaks and acts with grace and peace

Contemplate how Jesus makes the important decision of choosing his apostles. Jesus went up to the mountain to pray, spending the night in prayer to God. Only then does he gather all his disciples, and choose the Twelve who will become his closest followers.

Imagine him quietly walking alone up the mountain path to his place for prayer. Then, as night falls, he keeps his starlit vigil. In the morning, he rejoins his followers, gathers them and quietly calls and names the Apostles. Then he leads them to where a great crowd was waiting to hear and be healed.

Notice that there is no sense of hurry in Jesus’ actions. Everything is done with calmness, and with simplicity. Jesus speaks and acts with grace and peace. See how people respond to him.

Jesus, thank you for your wisdom and compassion. You order all things well. Please guide us when we have decisions to make.
