About Today Readings

Ss Martha, Mary & Lazarus

Exodus 24:3-8. Offer to God a sacrifice of praise – Psalm 49(50):1-2, 5-6, 14-15. Matthew 13:24-30.

Unshakeable faith in Jesus

‘Let them grow together until harvest; then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters, “First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn”‘. (Matthew 13:30)

Today, we mark the feast day of Jesus’ dear friends, Saints Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, three siblings who had an unshakeable faith in Jesus. In addition, in today’s Gospel, we hear Jesus telling his disciples the story of ‘The Weeds Among the Wheat’. This parable reminds us that God will sort through that which is of good stock and that which is meant to be disposed of. May we remain with those of good stock and remember that Jesus chose his friends carefully and his followers wisely too.

Lord Jesus, may we remember that we are to be like you always and choose our companions wisely as you did. May we be the abundant harvest you are awaiting to gather.
