About Today Readings

Philippians 1:18-26. My soul is thirsting for the living God – Psalm 42(43):2-3, 5. Luke 14:1, 7-11.

Life to me is Christ; but death would bring me more

As I write this, the 8th Big Freeze at the MCG has taken place – a day of hope and joy with former Australian Rules footballer and coach Neale Daniher at the helm. Daniher who was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2014 is a prominent and tireless campaigner for medical research, and is not resting until his work is done. There’s some resonance with Paul’s continued presence amid the Philippians, and his work for the community despite the pull to be done with life and be with Christ. Paul’s intention to help the community progress in the faith and increase their joy in it reflects the work of many great women and men across the ages, who take the humblest of roles to progress the greater good of the vulnerable in our community, and who reflect hope and joy. Definitely glad that Paul kept on going, even though his preference was to join Christ with God. Paul chose the courage of inspiring others to know the living God – our God of hope and joy.
