About Today Readings

1 Thessalonians 4:9-11. The Lord comes to rule the earth with justice – Ps 97(98):1, 7-9. Matthew 25:14-30.

The natural world shows God’s love for us, his Creation

Creation is an abundant example of both the unity and diversity of the world. God is visible through the elements which surround us: the sea, thunder, rivers and hills. Through the natural world, we see God’s love as our Creator.

In the psalm today, creation is personified as a joyful embodied response to God’s goodness. The earth is made by God and, in turn, gives God glory. These expressions of God’s presence are witnessed by all people, from different backgrounds and walks of life.

Religious orders such as the Franciscans express this charism in a particular way: embracing how humankind is in kinship with all of creation. Inspired by the example of St Francis of Assisi, may we do our part to care for creation, as God continues to care for us.

Let us pursue ecological justice to affirm our love for God and neighbour in our daily lives.
