St Andrew
Romans 10:9-18. Their message goes out through all the earth – Psalm 18(19):2-5. Matthew 4:18-22.
Lord, may we be your worthy disciples
He said to them, ‘Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men’. At once they left their nets and followed him (Matthew 4:19-20).
Today, on the feast day of St Andrew, the Gospel reading recounts the call of Peter and Andrew from their life as fishermen to a new life as disciples of Jesus. Standing at the shore of the sea of Galilee, Jesus calls to them, and they leave their boat and fishing nets without question. Would I be so willing to follow if I were in the same position, Lord? Would I hesitate to leave everything behind for an unknown future?
Lord, when I hear your voice may I follow. Let our main purpose in life be to become your worthy disciples and that we never forget your charge, ‘Go and make disciples of the nations’.
