About Today Readings

St John Bosco

2 Samuel 12:1-7, 10-17. Create a clean heart in me, O God – Ps 50(51):12-17. Mark 4:35-41.

‘Quiet now! Be calm’

How reassuring this story is to us poor frightened mortals. For storms are not simply things of nature, and we can fear many things other than the loss of life. But Jesus is always the same – yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Lord Jesus, master of wind and tide, rise up, I pray you, in the turbulent times of my life and say to the storms that trouble my soul, ‘Quiet now! Be still’. And do this, Lord, even though I am a person of little faith; for you are compassionate.

And while you express wonder at our fearfulness and faithlessness you do not refuse us the aid of your power and grace.
