St Elizabeth of Portugal
Amos 9:11-15. The Lord speaks of peace to his people – Ps 84(85):9, 11-14. Matthew 9:14-17.
Patience with change and renewal
As a parent, I have reinvented myself so many times. I faced severe morning sickness while working, endured a difficult labour, and learned to cope with sleepless nights. More recently, I have drawn on patience and perseverance I did not know I had to parent and advocate for neurodiverse children.
In today’s readings, Amos promises restoration after destruction, a process that unfolds slowly in God’s time. Jesus’ teaching about new wine in new wineskins reminds us that new life requires openness and patience.
St Elizabeth of Portugal was a peacemaker who patiently reconciled conflicts in her family and kingdom. Patience helps us see that renewal rarely happens instantly. God’s work often unfolds quietly over time.
Lord, help me patiently navigate conflict, welcome renewal, and do your work. Amen.
