About Today Readings

Acts 16:1-10. Let all the earth cry out to God with joy – Psalm 99(100):1-3, 5. John 15:18-21.

We have God on our side

It’s not hard to be disillusioned with the world these days. The metrics of social media don’t paint an attractive picture of contemporary society. Posts about the most inane or even hateful things get millions of likes and shares, while those offering deeper and more discerning takes are ignored. It doesn’t seem like the world is all that interested in what Christ has to say.

But as Jesus reminds us in today’s reading, we don’t belong to that world. Of course, that world’s going to reject us. We don’t need to join that world. We need to rise above it, and continue to encourage others to join our path. Our impact as individuals might be small, but we have God on our side. They might be able to ‘cancel’ us, but they will never be able to cancel God.
