About Today Readings

St Charles Borromeo

Romans 11:1-2, 11-12, 25-29. The Lord will not abandon his people – Psalm 93(94):12-15, 17-18. Luke 14:1, 7-11.

Go to the lowest place and sit there

The doors unlocked, we all rush in,
our elbows working, eyes on fire,
competing for the seats of honour
and the favour of our host.

Then Jesus spoke. We laughed aloud:
if you want to make your mark,
you can’t just wait until you’re called.
You must compete and win the race.

Well, Jesus, I do like to be
appreciated. If I just wait
among the crowd and eat my meal,
will you come down and sit with me?
