The poor widow has put in more than all
I’m always impressed and delighted with Jesus’ clarity and boldness when he calls out the Pharisees and law makers for their hypocrisy. He is no shrinking violet, and in front of a large crowd, his voice does not quiver. It must have been so encouraging for the people to hear the truth so clearly articulated. And then quietly he ‘calls his disciples together’ and directs their attention to the poor widow who gave all she had, even though the amount would have been considered pitiful in the eyes of others. The catch is, there is a Pharisee and a widow in all of us. At times we can experience religious superiority, while other times, we feel we have not fasted enough, prayed enough or given enough, when in fact we have given all we could. Lord, I pray your voice is clear to us as you instruct our minds and touch our hearts.
