The Transfiguration of the Lord
Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14. The Lord is king, the most high over all the earth – Psalm 96(97):1-2, 5-6, 9. 2 Peter 1:16-19. Luke 9:28-36.
Jesus is transfigured before them
This remarkable event indicates that Jesus was in the right place at the right time, and facing the right direction. With this combination of factors he was flooded with the presence and grace of his Father. His (human) being was revealed in its (divine) fullness. Scholars note that from this point Jesus began his journey towards Jerusalem which he knew would end up in his death. From the peak of popularity he was now to enter a stage of his ministry and his life, that was more about letting go than building up. This direction in life is one that we might struggle to move along. For men it is about focusing less on achievements and more on the good of others; for women less on caring for others and more on their own wellbeing. This change allows us to be filled with God’s light and grace.
