St Maria Goretti

Amos 9:11-15. The Lord speaks of peace to his people – Psalm 84(85):9, 11-14. Matthew 9:14-17.

A place for all

We are in a suspended time of feasting and fasting. The Resurrection means that we enjoy the first fruits of a new, restored relationship with God. But the full experience of salvation is not yet ours. So, the seasons of the Church matter. They allow us to express the joy of being saved by Jesus Christ, and lament at the reality of our still broken world.

The times of fasting, of lamentation, are indelibly affected by the life of Jesus, and especially by his Resurrection. This is not the lamenting of before, because now we know what is possible through God’s love for us. Old cloaks and old wine skins will not do for us. In our joy and our lamentation, we are invited to a new way of being. A way that enlarges the feast, that offers a place for all.
