Job 42:1-3, 5-6, 12-17. Psalm 118(119):66, 71, 75, 91, 125, 130. Luke 10:17-24.
Lord, let your face shine on me – Psalm 118(119):66, 71, 75, 91, 125, 130.
‘Rejoice that your names are written in heaven.’
The seventy-two Jesus had sent out to teach in his name returned to him with tons of job satisfaction. Jesus wants them, however, to remain humble servants of their brothers and sisters in the countryside.
So much of the gospel narrative speaks of failure to reach the unteachable ones, mainly the religious leaders who had their own agenda. We can ask always to remain simple, even if we are highly educated, so we may see things with all their sparkle and wonder as if for the first time. Then we may never run out of gratitude or begin to think all the blessings around us are simply what people like us deserve!
