The crowds flock to Jesus

The appetite for this man from Nazareth was insatiable. Even after his apostles have been sent out, maybe because of the evangelisation they have done while sent, people demand to be with him, to hear from him, to be healed by him. We know that experience of being disrupted from rest, the way it can make us cranky. Not so with Jesus as the crowds come to find him. He sees their need, and he knows his mission is to meet it. He desires to do what he was sent to do, to guide and protect this flock.

We may be sceptical about the descriptions of these crowds. Yet the historical evidence suggests in his lifetime he gathered a community that gave all to be with him. Within a generation of his death and Resurrection a significant community of Jews and then Gentiles left all to be part of the Christian community. How do I respond to Jesus?
