How are you called?
In today’s First Reading and Gospel we meet Paul and John. John, the Beloved Disciple, who ‘leaned on [Jesus’] breast at the supper’ and shared his testimony with and through a community of disciples. Paul, who came to faith in Christ by an abrupt conversion and who exercised such energy in evangelising. John’s faith is illustrated by Jesus’ desire that he continue following him, to accompany and witness. Paul’s conviction is expressed in his coming to Rome to plead his case, even as he remains steadfast in his faith in the Lord.
We are blessed by these witnesses to our common faith. Today maybe there is an opportunity to prayerfully reflect on how you are called to follow the Risen Jesus, to accompany and give witness. You may also consider how you live out the conviction of your faith and how you might further share this grace that you receive.
