About Today Readings

Philippians 4:10-19. Happy are those who fear the Lord – Psalm 111(112):1-2, 5-6, 8-9. Luke 16:9-15.

No one can be a slave to two masters

In today’s Gospel we read that it is impossible to be a slave to two masters, yet how easy it is to become a slave to anxiety. So much of what we watch and read, so many advertisements and so much of social media is conditioning us to feel unfulfilled and anxious. While it’s vitally important to properly deal with any underlying medical conditions affecting our anxiety levels when they get out of hand, it is also important to remember that if we are stressing over finances, status, or the way we look, we are serving a different master than the one we are supposed to.

Lord, help me to release my grasp on those things that cause me anxiety and help me to remember to serve you instead.
