About Today Readings

Genesis 27:1-5, 15-29. Praise the Lord for he is good – Psalm 134(135):1-6. Matthew 9:14-17.

Give thanks to God for the treasure of his love

So often when we pray, we are asking for something, pleading, imploring, unloading, asking God to change our lives or give us answers. Sometimes we pray in crisis and forget God when things are going well. We should also remember the Lord in the good times of our lives and utter words of acclaim, adoration and glory. The Psalm today reminds us of the goodness of the Lord and his omnipotence. It also suggests that there is joy to be had in this communal praise, when people recognise that God is great. Here, we are reminded of God’s covenantal relationship with the Chosen People and that we, too, are inheritors of the treasure of his love.
