Mysteries of God’s love

This feast of Mary’s Immaculate Heart immediately follows the feast of the Sacred Heart. Some of Isaiah’s words today echo the Magnificat of Luke. ‘I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my whole being shall exult in my God.’ Then follows those words of warmth, ‘he has clothed me with the garments of salvation’. Third Isaiah experienced the ‘salvation’ as the exiles returned to Jerusalem. Mary was deeply blessed by God, and we are blessed in turn by her, and the ‘garments of salvation’ she made available to us by her ‘Yes’. After they found the 12-year-old Jesus in the Temple Mary treasured all these things in her heart. This pondering and treasuring continued for years in lonely Nazareth. ‘Can anything good come from Nazareth?’ Her heart became a treasure of the mysteries of God’s love for humankind. Entering her heart we too are clothed in the garments of salvation.
