3rd Sunday of Easter
Acts 5:27-32, 40-41. I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me – Psalm 29(30):2, 4-6, 11-13. Apocalypse 5:11-14. John 21:1-19.
We are called to listen
Today’s theme of the readings is one of listening. In the first reading we hear Peter saying to the apostles ‘We must obey God rather than human beings!’ In the Gospel we hear Jesus telling the disciples to throw their nets to the other side of the boat. Literally translated, obey means to listen (Latin: obediere, to listen). Sometimes in life, when we think we are going along the best track, an even better track is just around the corner, and we are called to listen to trusted friends, family, communities, and most importantly to God’s whisperings to our own heart.
