About Today Readings

Baptism of the Lord

Isaiah 55:1-11. You will draw water joyfully from the springs of salvation—Isaiah 12:2-6. 1 John 5:1-9. Mark 1:7-11.

‘You are my beloved Son; with you, I am well pleased.’

Humility. When Jesus asked John the Baptist to baptise him in the Jordan River, Jesus is teaching us what it means to be a true leader – become a servant. Jesus’ humility reminds us that the best teacher instructs through example. As the following quote expresses, ‘Preach the Gospel at all times, and if necessary, use words.’ Do I use words to instruct or remember to be an example to others of Christ’s life and works?

God, remind me that deeds matter more than words, and that the actions I choose form my life. Remind me that I am what I do every day, not what I say or intend to do. Lord, you have shown me your Way. With your grace, help me walk it.
