About Today Readings

3rd Sunday of Advent

Isaiah 35:1-6, 10. Lord, come and save us – Psalm 145(146):6-10. James 5:7-10. Matthew 11:2-11.

What is it that you seek?

Jesus asks the crowd ‘What did you go out into the wilderness to see?’ The question is as relevant today as it was for those who gathered to listen to the prophet John the Baptist. The immense popularity of the Camino is a good example of the variety of motivations for going out into the wilderness to seek something that is difficult to find in the ordinariness of daily life. It’s easy to find ourselves surrounded by so many voices and messages clambering for our attention, that we become spiritually disoriented. The role of the prophet is to draw people back to God and to reorient their hearts. What is it that you seek?
