About Today Readings

6th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Leviticus 13:1–2, 44–46. I turn to you, Lord, in time of trouble, and you fill me with the joy of salvation – Psalm 31(32):1–2, 5, 11. 1 Corinthians 10:31 – 11:1. Mark 1:40–45.

Christ is our model

Jesus was not a people pleaser and didn’t change his message or behaviour as he mixed with outcasts, rulers, priests or children. We are called to be a good witness and not cause others to stumble, in every part of our life, not just in front of ‘believers’. After all, the healthy do not need a physician (Luke 5:31–32). Mahatma Gandhi put it this way: ‘If it weren’t for Christians, I’d be a Christian’. This speaks to the need for authenticity. Wearing masks and acting in certain ways around particular people is not following the example of Christ. It’s challenging to be a strong and consistent witness to everyone in our lives, whether we think they are interested in God or not.
