1 Samuel 3:3–10, 19. Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will – Psalm 39(40):2, 4, 7–10. 1 Corinthians 6:13–15, 17–20. John 1:35–42.

My lips I have not sealed

When I was a teenager in the 1980s and 1990s, I was an avid U2 fan. For many years, U2 would finish their concert with their version of today’s psalm. It still occasionally closes their concerts. The chant of ‘How long to sing this song?’ echoes around the stadium. Christian and non-Christian sing along and carry on even after the band have one by one left the stage. It is a moment of shared joy and communion. Thousands of people singing of joy in the saving grace of God. The psalm talks about not restraining their lips as they tell of their God. What greater way to shout of God’s love than in song? And there are so many songs of joy in our God. I am sure that everyone has a favourite hymn or song that speaks to them.
