Spirit of truth
In our own lives, we know how we can only take a certain amount of information in at a time and that it can take a while to process and integrate, particularly when the new information is different to what we previously thought. We also know that when we are sharing something important with someone, we need to pick our moment when they are most receptive and able to focus. Jesus knew this too. He still had lots to say but recognised it was beyond the disciples’ capacity to take it on board at that point in time. So, he told them about the Spirit of truth that will be coming. Jesus continues to speak to us through that same Spirit, bit by bit, leading us ever more closely to the truth about God and about ourselves. May we always have an open ear to listen.
