About Today Readings

5th Sunday of Lent

Jeremiah 31:31-34. Create a clean heart in me, O God – Psalm 50(51):3-4, 12-15. Hebrews 5:7-9. John 12:20-33.

All we need to do is ask

During this last week of Lent, before Holy Week, it’s like we are being given a last chance to make things right with our God. ‘Create a clean heart in me, O God’ is the echo we hear in the Psalm today. Can we live our lives more fully into the presence of our God, so that we are not deprived of the Holy Spirit? We can ask for help, we can ask for the spirit to sustain us, and as in the last line of the psalm, that sinners may return to Christ. All we need do is ask. Ask for a pure heart, for a clean heart, to help continue on the journey to the Cross and ultimate resurrection in Christ.
