The will of God
Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will. I often ask myself, ‘how do I know it’s the Will of God?’ The psalmist gives us hints of how we know the Will of God. To wait. To listen. To have an open ear. When I read the Gospel, I imagine standing there among the crowd, hearing John cry, ‘Behold the Lamb of God . . .’ Like John, I don’t always recognise Jesus at first. Sometimes it takes a quiet nudge of the Spirit to awaken my heart. We hear about humility, the humility of John the Baptist. He moves aside, so that Christ may be known. His role is to witness, not to compete. We too are invited into this humility – pointing toward Jesus rather than ourselves. John’s humility challenges me. Today I pray for my eyes to be open in unexpected places: in people, in moments of silence, and in the breaking of the bread. May I, joyfully recognise and announce the presence of Christ.
