Sunday 18 May 2025
5th Sunday of Easter
Acts 14:21-27. I will praise your name for ever, my king and my God – Ps 144(145):8-13. Apocalypse 21:1-5. John 13:31-35.
True glory lies in self-giving love
The opening line of today’s Gospel uses the word glory five times, which means we need to sit up and take notice. What stands out is the paradox of glory emerging from the suffering of Jesus. The crucifixion is not defeat but the ultimate revelation of God’s love. In a world that equates glory with success or power, Jesus has shown us that true glory lies in self-giving love. We are challenged to trust that God can bring about beauty and meaning even from our own struggles. How can we embrace and reflect the light of Christ, glorifying God in our lives?
