May truth and righteousness flourish
Today’s Gospel more than ever turns our attention to patience. It is in God’s time that the harvest will come. The Gospel challenges us to live with humility and hope – the familiar parable about the weeds being among the wheat. In our world, goodness and brokenness are side by side. Good and evil exist side by side. In our lives, in our communities and even within ourselves, there can be a mixture of both.
The farmer doesn’t destroy the weeds straight away. Like God with us. God’s patience and mercy allow for us to change, to grow and to repent. It is a spiritual process that takes time. Rather than rushing to judge ourselves or others, we are invited to grow in faith, hope and love – in order that truth and righteousness may flourish.
