I am the vine, you are the branches
Sometimes Lent can be easier than Eastertime and the rest of the year. It can be easier to endure when the finish line is in sight, the closer the better. Without this, I can risk relaxing too much and ceasing to grow. All of today’s readings invite us to focus on the ordinary rhythm of life as a Christian. Our challenge is to ensure that our love doesn’t slip into mere words, that we don’t cease to bear fruit. Our readings lay out the task for us: to build up the church, believe in Jesus, and show love in deeds. God’s providence, and the Holy Spirit’s presence are offered as aids to rely on. Finally, Jesus wards off any temptation to rigorism or Pelagianism, reminding us that only in him can we do anything at all.Email this Print This Page
