Ascension of the Lord

Acts 1:1-11. God mounts his throne to shouts of joy: a blare of trumpets for the Lord – Psalm 46(47):2-3, 6-9. Ephesians 1:17-23. Matthew 28:16-20.

We have all three of the Trinity to draw life from

Sometimes we can feel as if the Lord has abandoned us. Our prayer stops giving us peace and energy. It could be that we have done, or not done, something to hurt our relationship with God. Or it may be, as when Jesus ascended to heaven, that God is inviting us into a new relationship with God. Jesus can be a wonderful companion when we imagine him beside us at home or at work. God can be with us in a different way in the Spirit, within us, rather than beside us, giving us God’s perception and wisdom. We may miss the friendly presence of the person of Jesus for a while, but once we discover the Spirit, we have all three of the Trinity to draw life from. While we wait for the next stage of our relationship with God to be revealed, we remain faithful in prayer and service.
