Sunday 23 March 2025
3rd Sunday of Lent
Exodus 3:1-8, 13-15. The Lord is kind and merciful – Ps 102(103):1-4, 6-8, 11. 1 Corinthians 10:1-6, 10-12. Luke 13:1-9.
Holy Spirit, be there for me
‘ . . . but unless you repent you will all perish as they did.’ This is confronting, Lord. Then you tell the parable about the fruit-less fig tree. The man who looks after the vineyard and what grows there speaks up for his garden. He negotiates for the under-performing fig.
I’m thinking of the Holy Spirit, our ‘Advocate’. We fall short and head in the wrong direction, then fail to repent. But your Holy Spirit steps in between the Father and our shortcomings: ‘Let me encourage him/her. It will take a little time, but we’ll see if he/she responds.’
Holy Spirit, that’s why I’m taking this time in prayer. My inner garden needs your nourishment, and I need you to stick up for me too. Help me to be attuned to you today.
