About Today Readings

Passion (Palm) Sunday

Isaiah 50:4-7. My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? – Psalm 21(22):8-9, 17-20, 23-24. Philippians 2:6-11. Mark 14:1 – 15:47

Hosanna in the highest

Prudence: I don’t understand, Jesus – you know you are being watched. And yet you roll into the city on a donkey with a few wastrels waving palms, like king of the kids. What a suicide note.

Jesus: Would it have made a difference if I had entered Jerusalem with a thousand soldiers, Prudence? This was about faith, about God’s promise to be with his people through my mission. It was about the unnoticed people and God’s way through weakness. How else do you think I should have entered Jerusalem?

Prudence: You should have accepted the advice of your minders and stayed away during the Passover, and reached out to the authorities afterwards, Jesus. This just got you killed, and who did that benefit?

Jesus: Perhaps you should ask other people who have followed my way, Prudence. What does my death mean to you?
