Fourth Sunday of Easter

The sheep know his voice
Agnes: I’m not happy with all this talk about shepherds and sheep. People regard sheep as stupid animals who need shepherds to protect them. That’s OK for you, Jesus, but people in the Church who call themselves shepherds are often bossy and protective. Is that what you wanted, Jesus?
Jesus: Not really, Agnes. I spoke of myself as the shepherd because God has entrusted people to my care. And I do love all human beings. That’s why I came. And human beings are all pretty sheepish at times, aren’t they? In the Church there will always be people who peddle a cheap version of faith. We need teachers who can care for us as servants and not as bosses. They will speak with my voice and not their own.
Agnes: That sounds great, Jesus, and I do find it helpful to pray to you as the Good Shepherd. It makes prayer down to earth and warm.
