Fight the good fight
In today’s Second Reading, we hear St Paul’s final recorded words as he writes to Timothy from his prison cell.
He says with conviction, ‘I have fought a good fight’ (2 Tim 4:7). How wonderful to be able to reflect on your life, and be confident that you have been courageous and useful to the end.
Life is a constant assail of arrows, and it feels like we put out one fire, only to see two more light up. Are we fighting a good fight, or are we just fighting? Do we accept our cross with faith and a smile? Are we able to look up from our daily concerns and fight for those who are worse off than us?
Let’s ask God to help us with a cross we are carrying so that, at the end of the day, we can say to ourselves, ‘We fought a good fight’.
