Genesis 18:20-32. Lord, on the day I called for help, you answered me – Ps 137(138):1-3, 6-8. Colossians 2:12-14. Luke 11:1-13.
A living prayer
Jesus, your disciples asked you to teach them how to pray. Your prayer is with us still. It is a living prayer to a living God, to the one you called Father, your cherished Abba. We pray to God who nourishes and heals us, whose kingdom is a reign of love.
Just as God gives all good things, so are we asked to give and to be hospitable. To open the door of our hearts to those who knock with their needs. To have the courage to go knocking, to ask for help and to be persistent and trust in others.
Jesus, you call us to be generous and trusting and to consider how much more God will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask. Our prayer reminds us to be humble and thankful, to ask for and offer forgiveness. To create a community where giving is accepted as a way of being, which allows us to glimpse the unlimited generosity of God.
