Death brings us to the complete encounter with the risen Jesus
Death is one of life’s mysteries. The ancient Hebrew peoples struggled to explain it. Death separates us from all living things, most painfully from those we love. Even Christian believers have to accept its reality. The death and resurrection of Christ gives us hope, as does the cycle of natural life in the universe. Everything dies and gives itself for something else to live. Even our sun, a star, though it has existed for billions of years and will continue to exist for millions to come, will have its end. It will collapse and explode, and its shattered matter will eventually form part of a new star or planet. So rather than letting the fact of death create anxiety within us perhaps we can see it as a doorway from this life to the next. It is only death that will bring us to the complete encounter with the risen Jesus, God the Father and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
