13th Sunday in Ordinary Time
2 Kings 4:8-11, 14-16. Forever I will sing the goodness of the Lord – Psalm 88(89):2-3, 16-19. Romans 6:3-4, 8-11. Matthew 10:37-42.
‘Whoever loses his life for my sake will find it’
For the first disciples, losing one’s life for one’s faith was a real proposition.
In the reading from Romans, Paul reminds his Christian followers that they must think of themselves as being baptised into Jesus’ death. But in that death, Christians can find a ‘newness of life’.
Few of us today face that fear of being killed for our faith. But in the Gospel, Jesus reminds us that if we fail to follow Jesus because we’re too fearful of what others will do to us, we’re not fully living our lives in Christ.Email this Print This Page
