Trust in God
In today’s Gospel, we hear about the rich man who found himself in a prison of his own making because of his inability to trust in God. The poor man, Lazarus, led a life of poverty and suffering. He had no choice but to put his faith in God and, as a result, he found himself in a wonderful place.
Being rich isn’t just about having a lot to spend. I think it’s possible to be like the rich man even when it feels like it’s hard to pay the bills. The rich man has a great need to control his environment. He puts all his energy into making himself self-sufficient and eliminating any need for God. This does not bring him happiness or fulfilment. It creates a prison.
In Lazarus, we see a total reliance on God. I am reminded that I need to stop trying to control my environment, stop stressing about the things of this world. Instead, I need to put my trust in God.
