About Today Readings

4th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Zephaniah 2:3; 3:12-13. Happy the poor in spirit; the kingdom of heaven is theirs! – Psalm 145(146):7-10. 1 Corinthians 1:26-31. Matthew 5:1-12.

Help me live the Beatitudes each day

‘Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.’ (Matt 5:7-8)

We fled to the mountain to find silence. The crowds kept growing, and Jesus called us to him. When we reached the mount, he began to preach. We sat and listened. I found I could not understand his words with my mind. What does it mean to be poor in spirit? How will the pure in heart see God? However, when I stopped struggling to ‘know’ and listened with my heart, I understood, and now, I know I am called by these words.

Lord, help me to live the Beatitudes each day. Help me to carry them in my heart, speak them from my tongue, and live them in my life. May they be branded on my thoughts so that I may keep them at the forefront of my spiritual life.
