Fifth Sunday of Easter
Acts 6:1-7. Lord, let your mercy be on us, as we place our trust in you – Ps 32(33):1-2, 4-5, 18-19. 1 Peter 2:4-9. John 14:1-12.
Whoever believes in me will perform the same works as I do myself
Do miracles still happen? You bet! But there are many different experiences. Some have known an absolute trust in God that has multiplied five loaves to feed a crowd. Some have had an answer to prayer in an unlikely healing. Some perform great works of love, generosity or self-offering. In every case, God is still working through us for the good, and faith has a positive impact on the world. Great belief leads to great works. Yet our times of death and suffering don’t mean that we have weak faith. Jesus has prepared a place for each of us, where earthly troubles are left outside of the home of peace.
